City Point

One of the two main sections of the Eastside is City Point.

The City Point section in particular seems to have it all with parks, historical sites, and the beaches. There are many tree-lined streets with brick bow houses. As with all of South Boston the old and the new seem to blend together and make the area what it is, full of change and character.

City Point is another major neighborhood in South Boston. Just like Thomas Park and the Westside the neighborhood is undergoing significant development creating many redeveloped homes and condos. City Point is on a hillside overlooking Dorchester Bay and Pleasure Bay. The streets are tree lined with many brick row houses with window boxes and seasonal flags.

The streets in this area are predominantly one-way routes. Independence Square and the Christopher J. Lee playground are destination points for locals and tourist alike.

Part of City Point is a peninsula with Fort Independence Park. Once an island, Castle Island is now joined by land which was constructed during the 1920's and 1930's.

Boston HarborWalk is a chain of walkways starting in East Boston, through City Point and into Quincy. The HarborWalk is a vital part of the redevelopment of South Boston.

The HarborWalk also connects to new and existing networks of inland trails, which will link the HarborWalk to established parkways and open space networks, including the Emerald Necklace system, the Charles River Esplanade, and the Rose Kennedy Greenway. In the future, the South Bay Harbor Trail will offer Boston residents a new and exciting way to access the Boston Harbor on foot or bicycle. The trail will extend from the Ruggles MBTA station and winds its way through Lower Roxbury, the South End, and Chinatown to reach the HarborWalk at the Fort Point Channel.
